crookedtooth:

Reasons why I will make a terrible wife one day:

- I don’t know how to cook anything.
- I don’t know if mustard goes in the fridge. Does honey go in the fridge? Peanut butter? Jam? How does a person not know these things? I’m telling you, I don’t.

Im the EXACT same way! I really want to be a “super-wife” but it looks like we will be having carry-out each night. Do not fret, friend…Im right there with you. :)

When the circumstances of my life aren’t how I want them to be, am I going to trust God’s unusual ways?

How are you supposed to trust them if it’s impossible to know what they are?

Because you have faith that God is who He says He is. The bible is filled to the brim with stories and verses of God doing what He promised. Habakkuk is one of my favorite examples. The Babylonians had just become very powerful. They had just rebelled against Assyria and finally crushed the Assyrian empire. They then defeated the Egyptians (which just defeating the Egyptians alone is pretty crazy! They were very powerful) and soon after they would take over Judah and take everyone into captivity. So Habakkuk complained to God (The first chapter of Habakkuk is literally called “Habakkuk’s Complaint”) the day before the Babylonians were supposed to come and destroy Judah, which in his case, I can understand why! He basically just asked God how long would it be until he answered and why doesn’t he listen to his cry and how can he allow this injustice…all that kind of stuff and God says this “Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” And then God procedes to list everything terrible that has happened and will happen and it’s easy to get really angry with God…but we forget what He said in the very beginning…that he has something in store for us that we would never even imagine. And at the end of Habakkuk, in Chapter 3, you see the amazing faith that Habakkuk has and you see that God does keep his promises. Through God’s word, that is one of the biggest tools we can use to keep our trust in God, even if things are rough. God came through for Habakkuk. He came through for Moses and Noah and even Jonah…and let’s face it, Jonah was kind of an idiot for a while! ;)

But yeah…this is just a really long way of saying that God is who he says he is and the bible and even my own life is evidence of that.

Your first sentence is the only one that I agree with — that only through faith can we trust. Everything else about evidence that God fulfills his promises has nothing to do with faith. How significant is Habakkuk’s faith in God if God repeatedly shows himself to Habakkuk? It’s like me asking, “How significant is your faith that you’re reading this sentence?” If you have any faith at all that you’re reading this, it isn’t significant. When we strive to give credit to religious beliefs by appealing to reason or to evidence (as the likes of C.S. Lewis often do), then we hold the concept of faith in contempt by shoving all of the responsibility onto these “proofs.” Anyone who insists that God, God’s plan, the meaning of life, or anything else like that are things that can be known, is actively refusing to take responsibility for their faith. Their belief isn’t faith at all.

The first minute or so is a little slow, but if you want to understand what I’m saying, you will need to watch and understand this entire video.

Honestly…I don’t like to think too hard about God and why I believe in Him and why I have faith in him. I just DO. I know who I used to be and I see who I am now and I just know it’s because of Jesus. I live each day with God and I JUST KNOW he loves me and he’s with me. Does that make sense? I totally see what you mean, but I don’t think having a relationship with Christ is logical. It’s not something Im supposed to be able to condense into words or wrap my brain around. The love of God doesn’t make sense…and I like it that way. I think that is faith. Having a day to day relationship with God and trusting Him with your life even though you can’t understand it, ya know?
